Kroger Corporation, also known as Kroger Co, is a leading retailing company operates supermarkets and multi-department stores across the United States of America. Founded by Bernard Kroger in 1883, the company has a rich history of more than 140 years. With its headquarters situated in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kroger operates a vast network of 2,719 supermarkets as of Q1 2023, serving customers throughout the nation. Kroger’s reach extends across the United States, making it a widely recognized and trusted name in the retail industry.

Kroger company began using self-service shopping in its intital days. In addition, Kroger became the first grocery chain to have its own bakery. Kroger Grocery and Baking Company became the first grocery chain to monitor product quality and to test foods offered to customers. Many bakeries has competed with Kroger in those days. But Kroger Baking Company supplied baked foods like bars, breads (bagels, buns, rolls, biscuits and loaf breads), cookies, desserts (cakes, cheesecakes and pies), muffins, pizza, snack cakes, sweet goods (doughnuts, Danish, sweet rolls, cinnamon rolls and coffee cake) and tortillas.

Kroger began acquiring supermarket chains, expanding into new markets in United States of America. The retail industry has started in 1990’s where competitors like Walmart, Target , Costco has established their supermarkets. In UK, there are many more British Supermarket Chains like Iceland Supermarkets, but where as in United States , self-shopping at supermarkets has been introduced. Customers who come to buy products from supermarket look for quality of the product at lowest price. Then Kroger started operate 3000+ grocery retail stores under a variety of private brands.
